Abide in Truth
'Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.' (John 8:31-32)
I was confronted recently and suddenly with a situation where it would've been really easy to lie. It was between saying two small words, "yes" or "no". Knowing that no one would really judge me, knowing that it was a lie that would not injure anyone, knowing that it was just part of a training exercise, knowing that lying may make the rest of the exercise easier and yet, the Spirit within me was tugging at my conscience. "You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?" (Galatians 5:7). Sometimes I think we over-complicate things. The truth is simple. Jesus said that He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life (John 14:6). What do we do when we stretch Him, twist Him, dilute Him? Is lying the same thing as denying truth and if so, denying Him? I guess these are just some thoughts I had as I faced that particular question and wondering over the many other questions that make me think about how much I value truth. Because 'an hour is coming, and now is, when true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth.' (John 4:23-24)
'Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.' (Psalm 51:6)
Rejoicing in His Truth,
