A quick thought by Jon

oh, just thought i'd better clarify that the posts for the past few month's have been Debbie's (she uses mine bec of blogger version incompatibility)... so see who's signing off to know the author (if it's blank it's Debbie's... )

Just went to return some sermon VCDs to a friend, and sat a tube to my destination. On the way, i met a Brazilian (Carolina) from Sao Paolo (Brazil) who was struggling with 2 huge luggages. As i was assisting her, the thought just struck me as to how many opportunities there were to share the gospel via a tract or by getting email addresses and following up... the conversation was friendly enough, and i even managed to find out that she was a secondary school teacher teaching history, taking a gap year in UK to study English and experience life in London, and that she finally got a permanent place after shifting four times the past month (all in just 2 stops), but it was a pity that i didn't have tracts or get her email address. Just reminded me to be more aware of the countless opportunities everday at work, school, in the transport system, etc...

and today's All Soul's sermon on Ruth 3 was really thought provoking as well. The reader remember's God love when the same phrases used in God's covenant with Israel was used when Ruth vowed to accompany Naomi back to Jerusalem (even though it would have been hard on her as she was a Moabitess, and Moab was on bad terms with Israel), and when Boaz, as kinsman Redeemer, redeemed Ruth (who lost her husband). Ruth's faith in God (despite being a fresh convert) put Naomi's countless complaints to shame, and God provided Ruth not just with physical food, but with a companion (cf Naomi's bitter complain that they had emptiness).

Just love these stories... They are great reminders of God's love and faithfulness...

Quick Confessions

Well, as the title suggests, there's not much to be said since I haven't been doing too much and that's what I need to confess. After the exams, and I do thank you all for your prayers during that time, I kinda oozed into whatever sofa, bed, cushion was available. It's been nice to be able to unwind and take time to do nothing although I feel it's been a little bit of a waste of such precious time and after reading scriptures about sluggards and stuff, there is an acute sense of guilt.

Anywhoo, yesterday and today I'm meeting up with a friend who is originally from China but had been living in Russia for most of her life. She's come over here to study and starts University this coming year. I only met her at the beginning of this year and her name is Jing. She's just finished school so is in a celebrating mode but of course, I'm in a 'let's sit around and loung' mode so I agreed to take her out for lunch today and then finish our movie that we started late last night.

I confess, besides writing a few letters, I don't feel like there's anything else to do around here and am dying to return to Singapore. I was so excited to have made a dinner plan yesterday with one of my oldest and dearest friends, for her birthday. I can't wait. I've already gotten her a card, a present and it'll just be good to catch up. I truly thank the Lord for her and how she's been so gracious in always finding time to meet up with me even though I know she's got her own schedule and other friends to entertain.

My dad comes back on Tuesday, which will probably bring some life back so until then if you want to know what I'm up to I'm probably taking it as easy as it gets so if you ever want to give me a call or try to get me off my butt, you're more than welcome. =0)

Enjoy Resting in the Lord!

Anticipated Update

I can't remember the last time I last wrote into this blog thingy which either means that I haven't done it in a long time, which is not a good thing, or I wrote recently but due to lack of memory space left in my brain cannot actually remember doing it.

The lack of memory space does sound like a valid excuse since I've been doing my exams. I've now finished the first 4 and I THINK they went well although most of them could have gone a lot better. I must admit, I was really happy with my Probability & Statistics exam, which went MUCH better than I expected and now I'm just wishing that all the exams were like that one. I've still got 3 more to go: one on Monday morning, one on Wednesday afternooon and the last one on Thursday afternoon. Yes, I'm nearly done for my first year.

Just wanted to quickly say a word of thanks to those who sent me little Birthday notes and all that stuff, it was nice to have a birthday celebration before all these exams started. My parents threw me a really huge impromptu birthday party which was really nice and though not as many people turned up as they had hoped, we still had a lot of good food and good fellowship. I also recieved a lot more cards than previous years from truly valued friends so if you're one of those people and you're reading this, thank you again (hopefully I would have sent you a card or some other thank you note by now).

Two days after my birthday, was my dad's birthday which was a lot less festive since he had a preaching engagement which cold have gone better according to my sources but we did manage to go out for dinner and celebrate his getting older so it was nice to also have that family time before he left the next day (10th May) for Cambodia which is where he is now.

I, now, am looking forward to the end of my exams (OBVIOUSLY) and also VERY much looking forward to going back to Singapore again from the 10th June- 5th July. I might have gotten the return date wrong but in any case, the last trip back was very short and I was very disappointed not having been able to visit my dear friend Shulin (Shirley) so this trip is really going to be fantastic. If any of you who are reading this are in Singapore, you will probably be able to contact me or my family in general through my dad's mobile number: 9750 8924

Wow, I just realised that it has been awhile since I last sat here and wrote my little heart out but I think that's enough for now, don't want to give you information overload or anything. Thank you again all for your continued prayers (especially for my exams at the moment) and thank you for your continued friendship. I have been recieving various people's prayerletters from time to time and I do enjoy reading what you have been up to and trying to take moments to pray for you so if you ever have a spare moment to send a note or something, I do appreciate hearing from you.
