Prayer

Another week has flown by again, how strange.

Anywhoo, I was actully planning to write this email on Saturday but never seemed to manage to reach a computer with internet access all this time. In any case, i purposely tried to remember my thoughts on Friday for writing down.

I waqs SO excited to find out that our topic for Bible study on Friday was prayer and am so terribly disappointed that we didn';t have more time to really get stuck into it. Prayer is such a huge part of our daily walk and so often people overlook just how important it is. By the way, (those of you who have heard me say this a hundred times over, I give you full permission to stop reading and jump down a paragraph or two), there is this REALLY excellent book on prayer which is a compilation of famous saysings, quotes, Bible verses and whatever on the subject by famous people, etc. Some very powerful stuff that will probably make you rethink. It's called Kneeling We Trumph (and there's 2 books: book 1 and book 2, duh) if any of you want a copy, and I'll ONLY give it to you if you PROMISE to read it, then please let me know and I'll find one for you. They are actually out of print in the world today but my dad managed to get them reprinted for our own distribution.

What is prayer? I would normally have said "talking to God" and that is basically it but perhaps that is not the WHOLE of it. I remember one of my dad's messages where he quoted that "prayer is not just communion with God but it should be constant, consistent and honest communion with God". My favourite examples of prayers are mostly from Psalsm (go figure) but it really does help when the frustration comes along, to be able to understand that it's okay to cry out to God with tears and really learn to leave ALL the pain, struggles and EVERYTHING at His feet and leave it there. To pour out our hearts before Him and admit our doubts and admit our failures and all that weakness and then, like the Psalmist, to acknowledge that God is bigger than all that. To realise that He is there and then to praise and worship Him. Don't you just love tha Psalms? In fact, I think most people, when they don't know what else to read, they oftent o go back to the Psalms....right?

Anyway, as you ALL know, I could go on forever, as I usually do, but that's all for now. I've had a reasonably long day today after 2 tests, which went smoother (is that a word?) than I though, PRAISE the Lord!.

Before I go, and before I forget, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR everyone (by the way). May you all eat till your hearts content all the wonderful FOOD that Chinese people just happen to know how to make. =0)

I'm especially thankful to my dad for bringing back some goodies from the East. *grin*

DEAD Tired but...

Ok, before you jump to conclusions that I'm siting somewhere in my room with a baggy jumper eating candy and turning into a serious couch potatoe, think again.

Saturday morning, I amazingly managed to get up at 5am (on SATURDAY!) in order to take my cold-ish shower and catch a bus then train into London. You know, seeing BigBen by sunrise is an amazing experience...

Anyway, I was first into EEC (Emmanual Evangelical Church) although for business purposes it's just called Emmanuel Center and started helping out with setting up the coffee and tea and what not for the various events taking place that day. I never realised that I was going to be on my feet from that moment onwards till i got home at about 5. Well, I did sit down for Lunch, which was so graciously provided by my new bosses. All in all, it was a ton of fun, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I've always loved the thought of serving people without having to be all the way upfront but of course, by the time I was able to go home, EVERYONE could see that I could have collapsed at any moment.

I don't think I've ever walked home slower in my life! I hate going slow but I didn't have an option. In fact, after being paid, I was alost willing to pay some random person to carry me to the train station so that I wouldn't need to walk there. As you can imagine, it took me rather long to reach home and my wonderful mum was there to feed me and get me little containers filled with hot water to soak my feet. WOW! Am I blessed or what?

Anywhoo, just thought I'd report this to all you people out there who are always wondering what I've been up to. My toes are still a little sore but I'm going back for more tomorrow (Monday) since they apparantly needed help with another event. I've actually got to go now but if anything else interesting happens to me, I'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks for all your prayers and for being so faithful in friendship,
Debbie
